Kayla Demers
Credentials:Â
Professional Title: Athletic Therapist and Osteopath
Practice Location:Â Mirabel, Quebec, Canada
Graduated from Concordia University in 2004, Kyla is a member of the Canadian Athletic Therapy Association. She began her career in sports medicine, working for several years with the provincial teams of Rugby Québec and at the National Circus School in Montreal.
A sports fanatic and curious by nature, she obtained her osteopathy diploma from the Center Ostéopathique du Québec in 2012. Since then, she has been part of the medical team at the Canada Games twice and at the Vancouver Olympic Games. She was also a consultant for the Armada (LHJMQ) and for the Center for Development and Excellence in Sports and Leisure (division of the National Sports Institute).
A rugby and hockey player, Kyla has not only suffered concussions, but has managed and treated concussion cases for several years. In 2015, she began her journey to develop a care and interprofessional collaboration project for concussions. In 2019 she completed a master's research project at Concordia University where she found a significant link between neck and head mobility restrictions and persistent symptoms associated with post-concussion syndrome. She has completed several courses on concussions, vestibular rehabilitation, visual therapy and performance. Aware of the importance of education, she gives conferences on concussions that include prevention programs and are adapted to the populations concerned. Concerned about the great need for support for people suffering from concussion, she founded Vertex Commotion.
